The God of Second Chances (Part 5)

In this episode of The One Thing That’s Needful Podcast, Dr. Sivan Funches Dunham continues her series, “The God of Second Chances,” returning to the story of Jonah. When God called Jonah to preach to Nineveh, Jonah ran in the opposite direction, choosing his own plans over God’s purpose. His story reminds us that disobedience can lead us away from where God is calling us, but it does not place us beyond His mercy.

As Jonah’s choices lead him into a violent storm, he takes responsibility and admits that his actions brought trouble upon the ship. Yet God does not allow the storm to destroy Jonah or erase his calling. He provides a great fish to save him, showing that even in the consequences of our choices, God can make a way to rescue and restore us.

From inside the fish, Jonah turns to God with boldness, trusting in His mercy and grace rather than giving in to condemnation. After three days, God brings Jonah safely to dry land, and Jonah goes to Nineveh, where the people repent. Through Jonah’s experience, we see how God can use even a difficult season to bring about good.

This message encourages us not to give up when we’ve made mistakes or find ourselves in a storm of our own making. Turn your focus toward God’s love, mercy, and grace: He can forgive, restore, and lead you back into your purpose.
