The God of Second Chances (Part 4)

In this episode of The One Thing That’s Needful Podcast, Dr. Sivan Funches-Dunham continues the series, “The God of Second Chances,” reminding listeners that God’s character is rooted in love, mercy, grace, and unfailing faithfulness. Through scriptures such as Psalm 136 and Lamentations 3, she emphasizes that God’s mercies are renewed every morning and that His love never runs out.

The message revisits the story of Abraham and Sarah, showing how God remained faithful even after they became impatient and tried to fulfill His promise in their own way. Their mistakes did not cancel God’s plan or reduce the blessing He intended for them. Instead, God demonstrated that He can turn human failures into miracles and continue to fulfill His promises.

Dr. Funches-Dunham then begins exploring the life of Jonah, who was instructed to go to Nineveh but chose to run in the opposite direction. Jonah’s disobedience brought him downward, eventually leading him into a storm and forcing him to confront the consequences of trying to escape God’s direction. His story illustrates how fear, insecurity, and avoidance can cause people to flee from what God is calling them to do.

This episode encourages listeners to stop running from God and to trust His mercy when they make mistakes. Rather than seeking escape through distractions or unhealthy choices, believers are invited to turn to Jesus—the true source of lasting peace. Even when we fall, God’s grace gives us the courage to rise again, and His second chances can lead us back into purpose, obedience, and blessing
