Unless the Lord Builds the House, The Laborer Labors in Vain!

psalm_127_1--white-800x800Abide in Me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me… for without Me you can do nothing.  (John 15:4-5)

I love the portion of Acts, beginning in chapter four, leading up to chapter five, where the Apostles of Jesus Christ are preaching the gospel and doing mighty signs and wonders in spite of persecution, accusations and imprisonment.  There were some religious leaders of that day who were determined to stop the Apostles from preaching about Jesus, and were plotting how to stop them from the work of God that they set out to do.  A man named Gamaliel said something to those religious leaders, in regards to the Apostles and the work they set out to do, which is so profound and relevant for us as believers today.  He said, “And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it-lest you even be found to fight against God.”  (Acts 5:38-39).    I don’t know about you, but this truth brings me so much rest and peace. Too often the enemy has tried to use people to come against us, whether intentionally or ignorantly, plotting to destroy our God-given destinies or us.  When this has happened to me, I felt afraid at times…anxious about whether man would prevail in his evil plans against me, but I find rest in God with the truth of His word, that if the work of mankind isn’t of God…if God didn’t send them to do what they are doing, or say what they are saying…it will come to NOTHING! However, for us, who have been called and sent by God, and He is working in us both to will and to do…nobody can overthrow our destiny, the work of our hands or us, because it truly isn’t us doing the work, but it is God doing it both in and through us.  The Lord is building our house and unless He does the building the laborer, whether ignorantly or intentionally, labors in vain! Therefore, rest beloved of God; the works were finished concerning you, your family and your destiny before the foundations of the world (Heb. 4:3)

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  Philippians 4:13
