Blessed to be a Blessing!

“I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.”  Genesis 12:2

The bible tells us there are a few things that God cannot do.  This is and of itself a phenomenon because after all He is God…Sovereign and Supreme, Glorious and Almighty!  Notwithstanding these truths, God cannot lie for example.  Now, the bible does not say this, but I have often had the meditation and made the confession that there is something else God cannot do; “God cannot do anything small”…God goes big or He goes home so to speak!  He is a big God, with a HUGE heart, and an extremely generous hand that blesses, supplies and provides.  This truth is seen throughout the bible, and in my own life too. God let me know that one of the reasons He gives to us so lavishly is because it is His will that He blesses us so that we are a blessing to others.  That is the will of our loving God.  And because God is so big a giver, when you bless others, many more blessing come upon you.  I call it the blessedness of being a blessing.

The Lord showed me a powerful example of this truth in the book of 1 Kings Chapter 17.   In it Elijah, the prophet of God, came to a widow’s home and asked for a cup of water and some bread.  The widow responded that she only had a hand full of four and little oil.  Elijah encouraged her, “Do not fear…” “For thus says the Lord God of Israel: “The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry…”  (1 Kings 17:13-14).  And as sure as God cannot lie, the word He spoke through Elijah came to pass. Specifically, the bible says, “The bin of flour was not used up nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.”  (1 Kings 17:16).  This widow was blessed by God to that oil and flour that day and when she became a blessing to the prophet Elijah, she was blessed in such a way that her blessing didn’t cease!  Indeed the children of God are blessed to be a blessing!  Therefore, beloved as the Lord leads you to give and bless others do it without fear, and with a cheerful heart knowing that the blessings in your life will be multiplied as you do so!

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38
