God Has Not Changed His Mind (Part 4)

Defeating Giants by Faith, Focus, and Perspective

Welcome back to The One Thing That’s Needful, where we gather at the feet of Jesus to hear His Word and allow faith to be imparted through the gospel of grace. In this ongoing series, God continues to remind us of a foundational truth that anchors every promise we believe for:

God has not changed His mind.

Scripture declares plainly in Numbers 23:19 that God does not lie and does not change His mind. What He has spoken, He will perform. What He has promised, He will surely bring to pass. This truth is essential for believers walking by faith—especially when circumstances, time, or opposition try to suggest otherwise.

Faith Is Strengthened by Remembering God’s Faithfulness

In earlier parts of this series, we learned how David looked back at what God had already done for him—how the Lord delivered him from the lion and the bear—and how that remembrance strengthened his faith to face Goliath.

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He was faithful then, He is faithful now. Reflection is not weakness—it is wisdom. Remembering past victories fuels present courage.

David’s Victory Was Never About the Weapons

n 1 Samuel 17, David steps onto the battlefield with no armor, no sword, and no military training. What he did have was faith in Almighty God and a fixed focus on the Lord.

While Goliath trusted in his size, experience, and weapons, David declared:

“I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts… for the battle is the Lord’s.”

David did not defeat Goliath by might or power, but by the Spirit of God. A sling and a stone became mighty because they were yielded to faith. This reveals a powerful truth for believers today: when faith is placed in the right God, even small things become powerful.

God Honors Faith—And He Is No Respecter of Persons

David’s victory occurred under the Old Covenant, where sacrifices were temporary and symbolic. Under the New Covenant, believers have received something far greater: the finished work of Christ.

If God honored David’s faith then, how much more will He honor faith now, under a covenant sealed by the blood of His Son?

The same God who brought down the giant still honors faith today. And just as the Philistines fled when their champion fell, the enemy still retreats when faith stands firm.ty God.

Walking by Faith—Not by Facts (Even Good Ones)

In this episode, God reveals a deeper lesson: we are called to walk by faith, not by sight—whether that sight appears negative or positive.

Facts can change. Reports shift. Circumstances turn quickly. But God does not change.

Even encouragements and signs along the way—while blessings from God—must be viewed with the right perspective. They are meant to strengthen faith, not replace it.

Scripture reminds us in Isaiah 26:3 that God keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him—not on circumstances.

God is the same:

  • Yesterday — when He delivered you
  • Today — in the battle you’re facing now
  • Forever — in every future challenge

He has not changed His mind.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example of Focus

As Jesus approached the fulfillment of His purpose, crowds praised Him, shouting Hosanna. Yet shortly after, those same voices cried Crucify Him.

Had Jesus anchored His focus in human approval—even positive approval—His peace would have been shaken. Instead, He kept His eyes fixed on the Father and completed His mission flawlessly.

This teaches us an essential lesson: faith must rest on God alone, not on people, praise, progress, or perception.
