The Benefits & Blessings Of Knowing God (Part 1)

TOT 8 | Knowing God

The faith to believe comes by hearing the word of Christ. With that faith, you will inherit every promise God made you and fulfill your destiny, because knowing Him gives us direction and helps us live better and clearer lives. On today’s show, Dr. Siohvaughn Funches talks about the benefits and blessings of knowing God. Want to know how you can tap into that divine inheritance? Listen to what He has to say in His words.

Listen to the podcast here:

The Benefits & Blessings Of Knowing God (Part 1)

We’re going to be continuing on with a message from the previous episode about the benefits and blessings of knowing God. We’re going to recap a bit and then we’ll dive deeper into some of these truths. Before we get into that, let us pray. I ask you Heavenly Father that you, the Father of glory, may give to each and every one of us, God, the spirit of wisdom and revelation, and the knowledge of Jesus as we come, God, and get at His feet. I pray that the eyes of our understanding will be enlightened and we may know what the hope of His calling is, what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints are, and what the exceeding greatness of His power toward us is, God, who believes according to the working of His mighty power. I pray, Heavenly Father, that it’d be all of You and none of me and that God will supply not only our knees but even give us our hearts’ desires. Even let Your word that spoke be a lamp to our feet, a light to our path and an impartation of divine wisdom and a know-to and a know-how God in our practical lives and our everyday lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

For those of you who read our previous episode, you know that we spoke a bit about and went over some scriptures about some of the benefits and blessings of knowing God. God, first of all, established for us that to know God is to know His word because I felt from the Lord that people would want to know what knowing God looks like practically in a sense that’s easy even to understand. You don’t have to be spiritually deep. To know God is to know His word and we established that through the word. We looked at John 1:1 that says, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” We went to verse 14 and we discussed how the Word of God, which is Jesus, became flesh and dwelt among us. When we say the benefits and blessings of knowing God, another way of putting that is the benefits and blessings of knowing the Word or the benefits and blessings of knowing Jesus. Because Jesus is the Word and Jesus is God. We went over that.

One of the reasons that God gave us this particular message, as well as this whole entire show, is because God wants to take believers, children of God, Christians and those of us who are born again to a place where we’re no longer just waiting on our prayers to be answered. Not in a place where we’re hoping for something to change or hoping that something works out. God wants us to possess our possessions. He wants us to inherit the fullness of our inheritance. After all, He’s paid a great price to give it to us by giving up His Son, Jesus for us. The price has already been paid. The victory is secure. The inheritance is sure. God himself wrote the check and you can cash it. God is teaching us through this ministry and this show how to possess our possessions in a practical sense and in a way that everybody can understand. Whether you just got born again now or whether you’ve been a believer for what seems like all of your life.

God wants to give us, in a practical sense, some tools, wisdom and knowledge in how to go from pending to possessing. This message is another one because the Lord was showing me that we, as His people, have a desire not just to be praying, but we want our prayers answered. We want to physically get ahold of what we’ve been asking God for. We don’t want to always walk by faith in that regard. We want the fruit of our walking by faith to manifest in a tangible way, something we can touch, feel, and hold. Some of us hold that night. Some of us are waiting for spouses. We want God to bless us that way but God has come through this podcast. He’s using this ministry of mine to show us that this is the heart of God for us. This desire we have to go from pending to possessing is not our desire. It’s a desire that God Himself placed in our hearts. This is the will of God for us, not just that God would present some great opportunity or some great inheritance before us but God wants to give us that inheritance.

He’s showing us through this ministry and through this show how to grab ahold of it. God’s part is done. The works were finished before the foundations of the world. Everything that God could ever give us and has ever given us was done when Jesus did His work at that cross, His resurrection from the dead. The price has been paid. God is using this message and the messages from the previous episodes. If you haven’t gotten a chance to read those, I encourage you to do so because God is using those to teach us how to inherit our inheritance. Sometimes, we think that the way to possess something or grab ahold of something is different from what it is. God is speaking to us through His Word and through me by the revelation and the wisdom He’s given me to show us God’s ordained way to possess our possessions. God doesn’t want us wandering around the wilderness for 40 years when we could enter right in the land that’s flowing with milk and honey, so to speak. God is giving us clear direction so we don’t wander in the wilderness, but that we can go straight in and possess our possessions. Remember, the heart of God is one that gives and when God gives something to any of us, it’s a blessing for all of us.

There’s a lot at stake. You’re not the only person who needs your miracle. You’re not the only person who needs your breakthrough. We all benefit from it as children of God and those who are not born again, yet benefit from it because Jesus spoke in the Word about how some people will unless they see a sign or a wonder they will, by no means, believe. You’d be amazed at who needs your sign and you’re wondering your miracle. I felt to take a moment and remind everybody reading, and even myself, what God told me, and it is the perfect will of God. It is the heart of our Father.

We have the things we need and that God blessed us with those desires that he’s placed in our hearts. We don’t want that more than God wants that. That’s one of the reasons why God has sent me into some of your homes, and even outside of the United States. He sent me all this way and went through all of this in order to make this podcast possible because it is God’s will to teach us all these things and how to get it. He desires for us to have it and he desires for us to have it now.

I prophesied that over you that now is the time and your blessings and the benefits that God has in store for you, your family, marriage, ministry, calling, careers, and finances. I prophesied decree and declare over you that now is the time to receive those benefits and blessings. Now is the time to possess your possessions, to inherit your inheritance, and not by might or power. Not by your might, not by your power, not by religious rhetoric or routines, but by faith in the living God who has done it all for you already and through his ways, which He’s giving us through this show, especially through this message. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Wise Decisions

Let’s pick right back up where we left off as far as the scriptures were concerned. I didn’t get a chance to go into this and I didn’t want to rush it. God showed me in Proverbs 9:10, it says, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” Knowledge of the Holy One, meaning knowledge in God results in good judgment, and all of us can use good judgment, the ability to make wise decisions.

If God has ordained for you to get somewhere or to accomplish something, my faith in God, concerned in my life and even yours, is that we don’t even have the power to mess that up. Let alone a defeated devil. There is such a thing as a delay. There is such a thing as a detour and there is such a thing as an unnecessary process. None of us want to experience unnecessary delays, detours or processes. That’s how the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness.

Remember, the Bible says anything concerning that, Israel as for our admonition, learning, and benefit. We can look at them and see some of the lessons that God taught them, which are spiritual truths for us this day. We want to make good decisions. We don’t want to make a decision and it cost us ten years and in the twelfth year, we finally got what it was God wanted to give us when we were supposed to possess that possession in eighteen months before we made that bad decision.

I’m not saying bad decisions are the end of the world. God is the God of second chances. I don’t know that because I even read it in the Bible. I know that because I’ve walked that out and I hate even to say, “God of the second chances,” like I haven’t made 2,000 mistakes. God is like the God of 2.054 billion chances at this point. I hate to say it but you get my point when I say God of the second chances. We don’t want to harm ourselves. We don’t want to delay our destiny. We’ve got always to remember that our destinies are intertwined. They’re tied together. Somebody else needs to hear the breakthrough I receive. Somebody else needs your miracle.

There are many people who have spoken to me and written to me about the things that God has done in my life that has blessed them tremendously. People literally are on the ledge and didn’t jump because God allowed their paths to cross mine physically or someone else to tell them about what God did for me. The things I went through and the struggles I faced. How God turned it around for me and they’re alive to tell you about it and because of it, somebody else needs it.

I went through the trial and the fact that God took that fire that tried me and turned me into gold. They needed that. I thought that I was the only one who needed that. I thought my children and my family were the only ones who needed that, but it was much bigger than all of us all along. Keep that in mind when making decisions. It’s not just important for you, your family, business, career or calling, but it’s important for the body of Christ together. We are a body and think about your physical body. If you stub your toe, it throws your entire body off that day. It’s in your mind. You walk and you don’t walk the same and you’re moving slower. Maybe you got to work late because of it. It’s starting to affect other things. We want to keep that in mind and God is telling us that knowledge of Him will cause us. It will result in good judgment and making wise decisions, I don’t know about you, but it is a blessing to make a wise decision and to know that you’re making the right decision for you, your marriage, family, children, jobs or anything that’s affecting your life. Your health is priceless.

Knowing God: God wants us to inherit the fullness of our inheritance.

Health, Healing, And Prosperity

God showed me Psalm 1, and I love Psalm 1. It’s one of my favorite Psalms. It says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law, He meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth fruit in its season, whose leaf shall not wither and whatever he does, he shall prosper.” This is extremely powerful but God pointed out to me in this that it says in His law.

We already established that we’re not under the law as Christians as New Covenant believers but in the Word of God. He who meditates day and night in the Word of God, and if you’re meditating in the Word of God, God told me you know God. You are getting to know God without question because God is His Word. Those of us who meditate in God’s word, this is continually getting to know God. This is what the Holy Spirit meant by saying day and night. This is not something you set aside once a week to do.

This show is a part of your knowing God but it’s not everything because you should be getting to know God on a daily basis, even if that’s reading, daily devotional or something that the Holy Spirit leaves you to read in the Bible. You got the church, Bible study, show and different Holy Spirit-inspired books. God has written two of them through me. I know that because I certainly am not that smart and it’s full of wisdom and revelation. Even I, myself, as I typed it for the first time, was saying, “God, that’s good. God, I never noticed that.” That’s how I know I wasn’t the author and I was the secretary. When you find these truths about God and books or things like that, or preachers that are anointed by God, where’s the Holy Spirit teaching and not the man or the woman, you’re meditating in God’s Word. You’re getting to know God and when you do that, God said, “This person is like a tree planted by the rivers of water.” We know that trees need water but this tree is planted by the rivers of water. This tree is always flourishing.

No wonder why the next verse says what it does, “This tree brings forth fruit in its season.” I love this because something out of season can be terrible. Trust me, I know this from experience. You do not want to get ahead of God. It’s not worth it. When God told us, “Be anxious for nothing,” he literally meant nothing. People are like, “But it’s my health.” I hear what you’re saying, but I promise you, God knows best. Be anxious for nothing, including your healing. “It’s my children and you don’t understand. They’re on the verge of destroying their own life.” I can get it as a mother. I’ve been tried and tested and tried again and tested again almost continually. It feels unprecedented at this point as a parent. I get that, humanly speaking, but we are to govern ourselves, not by our feelings or our emotions, but by the Word of God, the unfailing sure Word of God. God says, “Be anxious for nothing,” so not even that. It amazes me that by knowing God, you can be like this tree planted by the rivers of water, constant nourishment and constantly supplied with what you need.

Bringing forth fruit not just bringing forth fruit but bringing forth fruit at the proper time. Timing is important. I love that and this is coming by knowing God. I have nothing against theology school but this is not coming by getting a degree in Theology. This is coming by knowing God. It also says, “The leaf of this tree.” Trees in the Bible represent people, by the way, so this is us. God is talking about us. This is not the tree planted by the rivers of water. It’s more the person planted by the rivers of water. You can say that to understand better and it says, “Our leaf also shall not wither.” This is incredibly important because the enemy is going to try to make us feel like the bottom is falling out. He’s pulling the bottom from underneath us but God himself has said, “Your leaf will not wither,” and this leaf that doesn’t wither is your health. It is your wellbeing. That leaf that doesn’t wither represents your health and wellbeing. God is saying, “It will not wither away. Not this person who knows me. It won’t happen.”

Also, this is amazing to me, “Whatever he does, He shall prosper.” I’m not worried about, what if you do something that you weren’t supposed to do and then it prospers? You give birth to something you never supposed. I’m not worried about that because the Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. If you’re getting to know God, you’re getting to know His Word, then it is lighting your path. It’s leading you. God is guiding you via his Word. He’s lighting up your path. He’s showing you things that are there that are good. He’s also shining a light on things that are bad for you to avoid pitfalls, snares, and traps of the enemy, and even of maybe your own flesh and all they’re doing. God has those bases covered but I love that He says, “Whatever he does shall prosper.” Many people I’ve met, for those of you who know your family that’s reading or me, you know that Hollywood lifestyle, so to speak, of the rich and famous. Especially given my background and what God has allowed me to be a part of and expose to.

I’ve seen many people striving to get there because they believe that’s prosperity and people who are already there and already have there, that’s filled by God, so to speak, who are already full of greed and striving for more. If you eat any more, you’re going to pop. I’ve seen that. God has allowed me to see that up close and personal and to experience it myself and make those mistakes myself. It amazes me that the idea of prosperity and what people think it means to prosper, and what people think it takes in order to prosper.

God’s ways are simple and they’re uncompromising. You don’t have to lie, cheat and steal. You don’t have to compromise and have a broken-down marriage to prosper. You don’t have to have this strained relationship with your children for your career’s sake. That is a lie from the pit of hell. God is saying, “You can prosper in whatever you do simply by knowing me.” No need to run all around the mulberry bush when God is like, “Sit down and grab your Bible. Ask me to enlighten your understanding as you read and to reveal Christ to you on the pages of this book.” After all, He is the word. This whole thing is about Him.

“Simply by doing that, knowing me, I’m making sure I’m giving you a solid unfailing promise that whatever you do, it’ll prosper so much so be careful what you do because it will prosper.” All this time, we’ve thought about what it takes to prosper. People are like, “You’ve got to work hard.” I’m not saying there’s not a place for God to lead you into work. That’s hard. I work hard. I feel like I’m completely 100% employed by God. I work hard, as far as the time it sometimes takes and efforts like that but it’s with such ease. There’s such an anointing of ease right on it that honestly, when I even say I work with God or co-labor, sometimes I feel like, “Are you exaggerating?” You’re sitting down and you’re in the air conditioning. Let’s be honest, sometimes you’re just playing with an apple on your phone and God is making it happen for you. God’s ways are His like Jesus said, “His yoke is easy. His burden is light.” That is true. I work with this man, Jesus. I work with God and I’m telling you, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

While I call it work and I say that it’s hard work, it’s not this striving, strain, self-destructive, family destroying, value-destroying, and compromising thing where people are out sweating to death to get something that God has already given them. I love to say this. Stop kicking down doors that are already open. God is showing us His God-ordained way to obtain blessings because God does want us to prosper like the scripture says, “Beloved, I pray above all things that you will prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” There’s a way to do that properly and healthy as the will of God. There’s a way to try to get that that’s outside the will of God.

Set Free By The Truth

We, as New Covenant believers, as children of God, have no place outside the will of God. We were firmly planted like this tree God said. Some of the other things that God showed me as the benefits of knowing God, and one of them I love, is about the truth. I love this because the Bible says in John 8:32, “My people shall know the truth and the truth shall make them free.” In the Bible, God told us that Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life. “My people shall know Jesus. They shall know God. Jesus is God and God shall make them free.”

Deliverance is vital. Freedom is vital. There have been more wars over being free than there have over dollars. That’s saying a lot because we’re dealing with a Mammon-driven society at this point, this money-driven society, which is sad to me because it’s God’s will that we prosper. I’ve seen many times people going all around God to get something that God has right in his hand and desires to give them without sorrow. Anyway, that’s another message. I love John 8:32 that it says this.

This could be deliverance. This freedom could be freedom from any bad habit, emotional turmoil, toxic relationships, and deliverance from addictions, and addictions come in many different forms. People can be addicted to drugs and alcohol. Those we know of addicted to sex and they can be addicted to certain destructive behaviors like responding in rage. They can be addicted to pornography. There are all sorts of destructive things to be addicted to like addicted to eating, gambling, and things like that. People want to be free. They are seeing that destroying themselves and their families. Sometimes, in dealing with an addiction, it’s not that people don’t want to be free. They have a deep desire to be free but they got themselves all entangled in bondage. How do you get free?

Imagine this bondage is like falling in a ditch that’s 100 feet down. It’s like, “Not without a rope. I’m not coming out.” There’s something more to this than just desiring to be free and God is showing us the way to freedom. It’s not struggling or striving. He doesn’t even say counseling, and I’m all for counseling. Jesus is a wonderful counselor. God tells us that about the Holy Spirit so I’m all for that. God has given me a gift of counsel and He uses it almost daily, I see that. I’m for it but I’m saying, “God is laying out this truth to us. Jesus is the truth and Jesus is the Word. When they know the Word, the Word shall make them free.”

TOT 8 | Knowing God
Knowing God: The knowledge of God will bring us good judgment.

I know that people who are struggling with addictions or have struggled with them, this is a breath of fresh air, in the least, to know how to get free. People want to be free. “We’re done and tired of bondage. Going around the same cycle, repeating the same behavior, getting the same toxic or negative result. We’re tired of it.” God is more tired of us. Watching His children and His loved ones go through that. He’s given us the key to this door, freedom, telling us, “Knowing me, I promise you, you won’t have to do anything.” The doctor won’t have to do it. The counsel won’t have to do it. If God leads you in that, by all means, follow God and you won’t go wrong.

Hope And Wisdom

By knowing God, He promises us, “Know me and I, God, will make you free.” Not to have to figure out how to get free, not that you’ll need the wisdom to get free. “Know me and I’m telling you, I will make you free.” Freedom reigns and knowing God. Not only that, but God also showed me in John 17:17, it says, “Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth.” That was confirming that Jesus is the truth and He is also the Word. Look at Psalm 119:130, it says, “The entrance of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.”

Knowing God, knowing his Word, it gives us light. The world has become a dark place. This is giving us light and this light represents hope and wisdom, which is why the rest of the verse that the Holy Spirit laid out says, “It gives understanding to the simple.” This is important. God said, “Wisdom is a principal thing and in all of your getting.” Trying to get this, trying to get that person, trying to get this deal and trying to make that happen. God said, “In all you’re getting, get understanding.” You get that how? Through the interests of God’s words. God is His Word. This is knowing God.

We see in Psalm 119:98, it says, “I have more understanding than all my teachers. For your testimonies are my meditation.” Somebody is even being in a place where the person that once taught them, they’re able to teach simply by meditating on the Word of God. God established for us already that when you meditate on the Word because God is His word, you are not just getting to know the Word, you are getting to know God. In doing so, God is giving you more understanding. He’s making you wiser than even those who once taught you.

The Desires Of Your Heart

I love this one. This is also in a song. It says, “Delight yourself in the Lord your God and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Remember, “Delight yourself in the Lord your God,” God is His word. You’re getting to know God and He’s becoming your delight even, knowing God. When you do this, God gives you the desires of your heart. I know that I was taught, religiously speaking, that guy will supply your needs and not deal with what it is that you want. That was something you could long for forever, too bad and sad. God is into this stern, strict thing where He talks about what you need and what you want is irrelevant. That’s wholly untrue. It’s completely untrue. God is into what it is that your heart desires.

Remember, in the Bible, in the Book of 1 Samuel, a woman by the name of Hannah who became Samuel’s mom was at one point in time bare in her womb. She had a good husband. He loved her and back then, they were married to more than one woman. Men don’t get any ideas. They were married to more than one woman and he loved her more than anybody else that he was with and was married to but that wasn’t enough. Hannah had a deep desire to have a child and the Bible says that it was God originally that had closed up Hannah’s womb and there’s a purpose for all of that. God’s purpose and the root of His decision were rooted in love. It was rooted and grounded in an eternal purpose that even benefits us who are reading the Word and getting to know God. Hannah had this deep desire to have a child. If God was into what you need, certainly, she didn’t need that because if she did need that, she’d have been dead already. Need is something you cannot do without.

She had done without it for a long time, in fact. God supplies your needs, not takes them away. They said that the Lord closed her womb so that’d be quite contrary to what we know about God. He is the supplier of all of our needs, not the one who withholds them. Hannah went and cried out to God. The Bible says, “In bitterness of soul.” I love the fact that it says that and that’s another message, but she cried out, came and she was in bitterness of soul. God heard her and He answered her above and beyond what she desires. She desired to have a child and God gave her many children. God does care about the desires of your heart but doesn’t go out and be compromising. Don’t go out and try to impress God or try to go through religious rhetoric to get it from God. There’s nothing you have to do to make a Giver want to give you. God gave you everything already when He gave you Jesus.

All of these things we’re discussing, although they’re important and they are huge blessings. They’re not the bigger blessing. Jesus is the greatest gift from God so the lesser is included in the greater. Knowing God gives us direction. The Bible says, “The Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.” It gives us direction in life and we can make those wise decisions and not have to wander in the wilderness.

Not only that, but the path that’s lit up is also one who can see. You can see where you’re going, what’s in front of you, what you’re dealing with, and you even can see ahead. That’s important because the enemy tries to test and try us but God is the God who goes before us, and that’s always true. When you know God, God will reveal to you even things that come or are about to happen. That way, when they do happen, if the enemy does try something negative, you know that God has it. He showed you that ahead of time. You’re reminded of the truth that God goes before you and also God can show you ahead of time those great things that are to come.

When they do come, you’re not hesitating or wasting your time on the fence about whether this is God or not. You are already ahead of time and know that this God. God told you that was going to happen. How was He doing that? How was He prophetically ministering to you and through you is by getting to know God because His word is a lamp and a light for us. This one is one of my favorites. In John 15:5, Jesus was speaking and He said, “I am the vine and you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me, you can do nothing.” Remember that Jesus is His Word.

Nobody wants to labor in vain. Nobody wants to waste time. No one in their right God-given mind us at least. It’s important. We do things we want to prosper. We want to bear fruit in our marriage, children, careers, and callings. We don’t want just to be doing something to be doing it. We don’t want to build up something to have it taken away from us. The first wind that blows it goes down. We want to bear much fruit and the way to do that is knowing God, abiding and staying in the Word. That’s the thing on a continual basis. That doesn’t mean you read 54 chapters a day unless God leads you to do so. It does mean it’s something continual, not just something you do once a week at church.

This is my favorite because to me, it sums up everything. In John 15:7, Jesus said, “If you abide in Me,” which is the Word because Jesus is the Word, “And my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you.” That’s an absolute promise from God. That means that the religious teachings and the religious spirits that have come to try to make us feel like, “You got to do this to get God to do that. You do this and do that.” It’s not true. God, Himself, is speaking and He’s telling us the way to possess our possessions. He’s telling us how to get the desires of our hearts. “If you abide in Me, abide in My Word, and My words abide in you.” The Word of God will abide in you because the more you’re doing it, reading, and getting to know God, it’s coming on the inside of you. It’s not something that goes in one ear and out the other. The Word of God is something that God Himself sends, plants, it takes root and it bears fruit that God’s sent it to bear. It accomplishes what God sent it to do. You won’t forget that Word and it’ll do what God called it to do.

I love it because it sums up everything. It’s like, “Whatever you desire, it shall be done for you.” I don’t have to perform before God. I don’t have to fast for fifteen days and pray for nineteen hours for God to do this. No, you don’t. You abide in the Word and the Word abides in you. Whatever you ask, whatever you desire, that Jesus Himself promised, that shall be done for you. This is amazing to me. It’s such a blessing to know that all of these blessings, even this last one that sums up everything, is wrapped up in knowing God and what we went over getting at the feet of Jesus and hearing His Word. That’s what God has decided to embark on doing and continue to do through this show. It puts us at the feet of Jesus and we’re hearing His Word.

As we get to know His Word, we are getting to know Him and we see all the benefits and the blessings of knowing God. Thank you for joining me. I know that that has blessed you. I know that it’s going to bless your family life, children, health, careers, callings, ministry, purpose, and destiny. It’s going to bless every aspect of you because it’s the absolute truth and it’s the reason why God sent you even to read this show.

TOT 8 | Knowing God
Knowing God: People want to be free. We’re done and tired of going around the same cycle, repeating the same behavior, and getting the same toxic or negative result.

Until we meet again. May God continue to bless you, keep you, surround you and divinely protect you as you embark on this journey of getting to know God. May God reveal Himself to you in ways like He never has before, unprecedented ways. I pray that you will see the tangible results, the fruit-bearing results of this being the absolute truth of God. His ordained will for you to obtain and all that God longs to give you and longs to bless you with. Those things you need and even those desires of your heart as well. In Jesus’ name, we pray. God bless you. I love you. Thank you for joining me. Let’s get together next episode.
