OUR GOD IS A GOD OF SECOND CHANCES!

“…Fear not for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine”  (Isaiah 43:1).

God is so full of love, grace and mercy toward His children.  In fact, God is love, and love endures all things (1 John 4:7 & 1 Corinthians 13:7).   God, in His love toward us tirelessly extends His mercy and grace to us…no matter what we have done or failed to do.  You can say it like this; our God is a God of second chances.  The bible is filled with proof of this truth, but for today’s message lets turn our attention to the book of Ruth.

The book of Ruth opens up with Naomi, her husband and their two sons fleeing out of Bethlehem and into Moab (a nation previously cursed by God due to the evil they did). Interestingly, Naomi and her family left Bethlehem, which is translated in Hebrew as the “house of bread” and into Moab, a forbidden nation, because of a famine in Israel.  Needless to say, God didn’t tell them to do this, but in His mercy and loving-kindness, He redeemed all that was lost due to the poor decision they made.  To make this longer story short, Naomi eventually came back to Bethlehem with her daughter in law Ruth, a Moabite.  The rest of her family and any fortune she had all died in Moab.  All seemed to be lost to Naomi and she was certain that God had forsaken her and was against her…but nothing could be further from the truth.  God was with her all along and He was for her.  Not to condemn her, but to restore and redeem her.  The Lord led Naomi’s daughter in law, Ruth, to meet and marry a very wealthy relative of the family, who God used to redeem Naomi’s loses. Not only that, but Ruth and Boaz, had a child together, Obed, who is apart of the lineage of Jesus Christ! God even redeemed her in the area of family, but greater than before!

The same is true for us today, regardless of what we have done or failed to do. It is not too late for God to redeem whatever is lost due to bad decisions. We, as humans, will change in our behavior; sometimes its superb and sometimes sketchy, but the good news is that Jesus doesn’t change.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).  And what He did for Naomi, He will do for you.  God is not a respecter of persons and He loves you beyond human comprehension  (Acts 10:34 & Romans 2:11-16). Naomi is proof that God is with you standing ready and willing to redeem you, and not condemn you…because our God of love; He is a God of second chances!

“…Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love…”  (Jeremiah 31:3)
