If You Don’t Have It You Dont Need It (Part 3)

In a world where we are constantly taught to rely on logic, reasoning, and what we can see with our own eyes, faith can feel counterintuitive. Yet the gospel consistently invites believers into a different way of thinking—one rooted not in circumstances but in the promises of God.

In this episode of The One Thing That’s Needful Podcast, Dr. Siohvaughn L. Funches-Dunnom continues her powerful series titled “If You Don’t Have It, You Don’t Need It.” The message reminds believers that God’s provision does not depend on what appears possible in the natural. Instead, it depends on faith in His Word and trust in His timing.

The Foundation: God Supplies Every Need

he series is grounded in Philippians 4:19, which declares:

“My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

This promise means that no matter what circumstances look like, believers can trust that God has already made provision. The challenge is not God’s ability to provide—but our willingness to believe His Word over the evidence of our circumstances.

The enemy often attempts to shift our focus away from faith by magnifying problems and encouraging us to analyze situations purely through human logic. When we rely only on reasoning, we begin to conclude that certain outcomes are impossible. Yet God’s Word continually demonstrates that His power operates beyond human limitations.

Learning From Hannah: Faith in the Face of Barrenness

One example highlighted in the message is the story of Hannah in the book of First Samuel. Hannah faced barrenness—a condition that appeared permanent and hopeless. In her time, barrenness carried deep emotional and cultural pain, and there was no natural solution to her problem.

Yet Hannah refused to surrender her hope.

She continued to trust God, believing that the same God who created life could provide what seemed impossible. Her faith was rewarded when God not only answered her prayer for a child but blessed her with multiple children. Her story reminds believers that God often answers beyond what we ask or imagine.

Another powerful example comes from the story of Abraham and Sarah. God promised Abraham that he would become the father of many nations, yet both he and Sarah were far beyond the natural age for having children.

From a human perspective, the promise seemed unrealistic.

Years passed. Their circumstances did not change. Eventually, doubt crept in and they attempted to “help” God fulfill His promise through their own plan. This decision led to painful consequences that still echo through history.

But even in the middle of their mistakes, God remained faithful.

The Danger of Trying to Help God

One of the key lessons from Abraham and Sarah’s story is the danger of attempting to force God’s promises through human effort.

When doubt is left unchecked, it eventually turns into unbelief. And unbelief often leads us to take matters into our own hands. Yet God does not need our plans to accomplish His promises. What He requires is simple but powerful: faith.

As Scripture repeatedly teaches, “only believe.”

God Is Faithful—Even When We Struggle

Perhaps one of the most encouraging parts of these biblical stories is that God remained faithful even when His people struggled with doubt. Sarah laughed when she first heard that she would have a child in her old age. Yet God still fulfilled His promise.

Scripture reminds us that God is faithful even when our faith wavers.

Time may pass. Circumstances may appear unchanged. Logic may insist that it is too late. But God’s promises do not operate according to human timelines.

At the heart of this message is a powerful truth:

If God has not given something yet, it does not mean it will never come. And if it has not come yet, it may simply mean that the timing is still in God’s hands.

Faith means trusting that what God has promised will come to pass—regardless of how impossible it may seem in the natural.

The same God who opened Hannah’s womb, fulfilled His promise to Abraham and Sarah, and performed countless miracles throughout Scripture is still at work today.

And His message to believers remains the same:

Only believe.
