God Has Not Changed His Mind (Part 1)

Welcome back to a brand-new season of the One Thing That’s Needful podcast! I am your host, Dr. Siovaughn Funches, and I am honored to begin this new journey with you as we delve deeper into the Word of Christ.

We are kicking off this season with a powerful and crucial series: “God Has Not Changed His Mind.” As believers, we are called to walk by faith and not by sight, yet life often presents us with circumstances that try to convince us of the opposite—that God has somehow reconsidered His promises to us.

In this first part of our series, we explore why God is the most trustworthy anchor for our souls and how His perspective of us differs radically from the world’s.

The Unchanging Nature of God

The cornerstone of our faith walk is trust. We trust God because He is faithfully consistent. Unlike humans, God does not “switch things up” or lie. Our key scripture for this series reminds us:

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act?” — Numbers 23:19 (NLT)

If God said it, you can bank on it. It is a “check” that will cash every single time. However, the “father of lies” (Satan) wants us to believe that Jesus—who is the Truth—has lied to us. The enemy uses three main tools to talk us out of our miracle: circumstances, Satan’s whispers, and time.

The Test of Time and Patience

Time is one of the greatest battles for our faith. We often give God deadlines, assuming that if something hasn’t happened by a certain age or timeframe, we must have heard Him wrong.

But God reminded me during my own trust walk: “I created time, time didn’t create me. Time serves me, I don’t serve time.” We must possess both faith and patience to inherit the promises.

Chosen: Beyond the Outward Appearance

To understand how God moves, we look at the life of David. Before David was king, he was a 17-year-old shepherd, completely overlooked by his father, Jesse, and his many brothers. When the Prophet Samuel came to anoint the next king, man looked at the outward appearance—statue, height, and “kingly” features.

But God gave Samuel a profound correction:

  • Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.
  • God’s choice is final: He rejected the sons who looked the part but lacked the heart He required.
  • The overlooked are chosen: David wasn’t even invited to the meeting, yet he was the one God had appointed.

Don’t Judge Yourself by Your “Outward”

This truth isn’t just about how we see others; it’s about how we see ourselves. We often condemn ourselves based on our “outward appearance”—our faults, our mistakes, and things we said or did wrong.

God wants you to know:

  1. Righteousness is a Gift: Your standing with God is not based on what you do, but on what Jesus did at the cross.
  2. Stop Self-Judging: Judging yourself by your performance is “self-righteousness,” which the Bible describes as filthy rags.
  3. Believe the Promise: You are clothed in God’s righteousness the moment you believe.

Stay Encouraged

If people don’t see your gift or your calling right now, do not be discouraged. Even those closest to David couldn’t see what God saw in him. Your appointment comes from God, not man.

God has not changed His mind about you.
